Assessment FAQ’s – Can this process turn off a candidate we are trying very hard to motivate to choose our company?

We have all been in the situation. You sit down with someone and within minutes its clear this person is a superstar and you turn on the sell the company/position engines. We do the same thing. It’s usually pretty obvious we have a customer engagement superstar in front of us and we do make sure their experience is positive and we also sell the opportunity and company they are looking at. In addition, even if someone struggles in the FW test, we still always focus on having their experience be positive and sell the opportunity – you will see this in the video recording. But there are some things worth considering:

  • Very, very few candidates will have ever gone through something like this – it truly is unique. Anytime something is new there can be anxiety risk. It is critical you follow our guidance in how to present this process to every candidate, so this never happens for you. This is not a test – this is a training program you sponsor them for. It is a chance to go to Top Gun school for one day. You will want to share that you have personally been through this process and found it very interesting.
  • Some superstar candidates will chase multiple opportunities. But they will always have one they prefer and are hoping to get. The others are just backups. If you are a backup option, you don’t want to waste time on that candidate or hire them. You want folks joining your team who feel you are the one as much as you feel they are the one. An FW assessment requires some preparation investment to be successful in. We have had folks show up without having done any preparation and usually therefore struggle. It will be a flag for you on someone for whom you, unfortunately, are not the one. And they will not be serious about winning your confidence.
  • Our experience has been that candidates tend to be more interested in our client situation after our process. They recognize that someone who takes the time and invests to avoid wrong hires, is likely avoiding wrong hires. This means the team they will be joining will be stronger. It means the company they are joining is willing to invest to help folks be more successful – which means they are joining a team that is always getting better.
